Johnnie Turnage is an award-winning grassroots activist and tech entrepreneur, currently making waves in the world of fundraising with his startup, EvenScore. With nearly 15 years of experience in social justice and grassroots organizing, Johnnie brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the table.

Johnnie’s career in social justice and grassroots organizing began early on when he worked for Get Out the Vote, leading local youth in neighborhood canvasses and voter registration efforts. He later joined MOSES (Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength) as a GOTV intern, leading organizing efforts across the city, including civic engagements and clergy coalitions to strengthen ties with African-American leadership.

In 2012, Johnnie founded the youth organizing project, Crossing Boundaries, Building Bridges, with other young leaders from the metropolitan area. His hard work and dedication to social justice earned him the Mario Savio Youth Activist Award in 2015. That same year, Johnnie accepted a position with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW Local 876).

At UFCW Local 876, Johnnie worked his way up to Contract Director, managing multiple departments, assisting with staff training and development, and playing a major role in the unionization of the first two marijuana dispensaries in Michigan. In 2021, he founded EvenScore, bringing his passion for community organizing to the world of technology.

EvenScore is an impact-focused donation platform that provides a safe and trusted space for small-dollar donors to support the causes and candidates most important to them and the communities they call home. With the EvenScore app, users build a personalized contribution dashboard that allows them to track all of their donations while providing real-time updates on the campaigns they follow.

Johnnie has poured his life’s work into EvenScore, creating a tool that empowers individuals to use their voices and direct their money to the campaigns and causes they care about. As he puts it, “Everything that exists right now focuses on how organizations can get the money, but I’m building a tool so individuals can get involved.”
